“15 Years of GC Records” celebration announced for June 29

Vegas-based DIY punk rock label Geykido Comet “GC” Records is turning 15 this year and they’re putting on a party to celebrate. The “Super Celebration and Block Party” is set to take place on Sunday, June 29th at Civilian Clothing HQ on Windy Road Street and boasts a lineup that includes Illicitor and Four Letter Words (see the flyer below for the full list of bands).

We reached out to GC Records founder Shahab Zargari for more info on the new GC / Yum Yum 12” comp that is set to be released at the show:

“Well, we’re working on a punk/indie snapshot of the Las Vegas scene. Working on getting it mastered now. If all goes well, they’ll be ready at the show: 180 gram vinyl with zine and download code. A full list of bands will be announced soon. The whole concept was spearheaded by Zabi Naqshband (Illicitor), Heela Naqshband, myself and the 80s Kids duo (two talented dudes who have a gallery at Emergency Arts) Jacob Gallegos and Ryan Brunty.

Speaking of Zabi, the reason we hit 15 years is all him.

At our ten year mark, Heela and I were about to close up shop. 3 of our distributors crumbled under the state of the music business (owed money, owed stock….never to be seen again). Zabi urged us to keep going. And we did. As soon as we did [Zabi’s previous band] Holding Onto Sound began to really get national attention, play shows and tours with tons of high profile bands…and we kept plugging away.

We wouldn’t be here without him…and his beard.”

In its 15 year existence, GC Records has put out music from the likes of Peelander-Z, Enemy You and Toys that Kill. Disappointingly, they’re not encouraging people to wear brightly colored dresses and calling it the “GC Quinceañera” (though I do challenge every band playing the event to cover The Vandals’ “I Know, Huh?”). But the 15 Year party is free, all-ages and you can scope out the rest of the details on the Facebook event page.
