Coastal Skyway stream ‘Last Flight Home,’ release show July 30 at Eagle Hall

Today we’re bringing you a full stream of Last Flight Home, the debut EP from Vegas easycore/pop punk band Coastal Skyway. The EP will be available at the band’s release show this Saturday, July 30, at the Eagle Hall and digitally via Bandcamp, iTunes and Spotify shortly thereafter.

So who is Coastal Skyway? “Lewie and I started Coastal Skyway toward the end of 2014, but failed to find reliable members and couldn’t get past just jamming,” explains Coastal Skyway frontwoman Meredith Ann Hall. “We began looking again in April of 2015. I posted on Facebook that we were looking for people to jam with us and potentially form a pop-punk band. I met Mike through the Facebook group the Las Vegas Thunderdome, and he agreed to come jam with us. We went through a couple lineup changes until we found Austen, and then later Jamie.”

The band’s sunny sound recalls many of today’s biggest pop punk acts and contrasts nicely with the album’s more personal lyrics. “Musically, the album is very much influenced by Four Year Strong, A Day To Remember, The Story So Far, and old Wonder Years,” says Hall. “Lyrically, aside from pizza, friends, and a couple breakups, the album is mostly influenced by coping and dealing with tragedy while remaining as positive as possible. The main theme of the album is definitely finding and going to the place you call home, whether that is a physical place or just surrounding yourself with positive people, family, friends, etc. and cutting the negative and toxic things in your life.”

Last Flight Home was recorded locally at Fox Tail Studios, Hall explains: “We recorded the entire EP with Greyson Cervantes and Connor Lazenby with Fox Tail Studios. We absolutely loved working with them, and would highly recommend their studio.” In regards to the songwriting process, Hall says, “For the most part, with the exception of ‘Sorry I Played the Victim,’ Mike would write the guitars first for a song and then come to the group with it where we would tweak it and solidify the structure. Next, Lewie would take the song and write drums. While the instrumentals were all being written I would be working on tentative lyrics that would fit with the feel of how the song was going, and then after the instrumentals were completely done, I’d write the vocal melody and add synth.”

Fans will also be able to pick up the EP in person at the Last Flight Home EP release show on Saturday, July 30 at Eagle Aerie Hall. The show also features SoCal pop punk band Horror in the Moonlight and local support from Almost Awake, Louder Than Words, I Am Vertical, The Avenue, and Odd Solutions. Presale tickets are $10 and you can message Coastal Skyway on Twitter or Facebook for ticket delivery.
