Mercy Music sign licensing deal with Squidhat Records, new album scheduled for September release

You’ve seen him on the cover of the Las Vegas Weekly, rocked out with him at the Punks in Vegas 3 Year Bash and he might have sold you a guitar at some point, but now the whole world is going to get a chance to hear Brendan Scholz’s Mercy Music. SquidHat Records, in a partnership with Tighten It Up Entertainment, has announced an exclusive licensing deal with Scholz’s high energy pop-punk band. Mercy Music is currently recording their debut album which will be released locally in September and nationally on October 14, 2014.

Mercy Music began as a singer/songwriter project for Scholz after the dissolution of his previous band Deadhand in 2013. After a few months of playing as a solo act and two releases – an EP and a split with fellow Vegas artist No Red Alice, Scholz recruited former Deadhand bandmate Jarred Cooper on bass and drummer Mike McGuinness to round out the band’s sound – a cross between former Lookout! pop punk acts like the Mr. T Experience and Ted Leo and the Pharmacists with a dash of Replacements-style rock ‘n roll thrown in for good measure.

If you want to check out Mercy Music for yourself, you can see them for free this Friday at the Goldspike, or you can check out our Stripped Down Session with Scholz below.
