Today we’re bringing you a stream of the debut 7” from Las Vegas/Los Angeles grindcore band Red Vom. This is the new project from Matt Fuchs (Curl Up and Die) and Keil Corcoran (Starfucker, Weirding Way). The 7” was mastered by Alan Douches and features art by Matt Lock.
According to Corcoran, “I think the idea to make music together happened when Matt Fuchs and I ended up playing some Curl up and Die songs together when I visited Vegas a year or two ago. Matt and I are both obsessed with PC games so we’re constantly chatting while playing games together. We play this game called DayZ which involves lots of waiting around while trying to murder people for their beans. We started sending ideas back and forth while slaughtering innocents in the zombie apocalypse.”
While the band has video games to thank for its origins, the name came from a completely different source. Corcoran explains “Vom is short for vomit. Have you ever drank so much Robitussin you hurl? Red Vom.”
Fans of the members’ past work in Curl Up and Die and Weirding Way will be instantly attracted to Red Vom’s abrasive vocals and blistering speed. The band has a mix of influences, though, and plans to do more than just grind. According to Corcoran, “I love Discordance Axis. Matt loves Alice in Chains. I think our next record might have a little bit of industrial thrown in.”
If you like what you hear, you’ll be happy to know that the band is already working on their live show. “We will definitely play shows” Corcoran explains. “We’ve practiced a few times when Matt comes to visit LA. For now I think shows will be a two piece. I play in a pop band so I work with a lot of light sequencing/backtrack stuff so we’ll probably sequence the bass and have a crazy light show. I imagine we’ll probably add a bassist eventually and maybe a drummer so I can wig out up front.”
