Music: Residuels (ex Loud Pipes) stream new 7”, play Vegas May 14

Residuels is a new band out of Philly with a strong Vegas connection. The power-trio is lead by singer/guitarist Justin Pittney, who longtime Vegas music fans (and former Airbag readers) will remember for his work in hometown bands like The Loud Pipes, Third World War and Rippin’ Shit. While the new band boasts such influences as The Buzzcocks and MC5, their work ethic is something born from time spent in the Vegas punk/hardcore scene.

“People always ask me what it was like growing up in Vegas” explains Pittney. “I always tell em’ how much of a positive impact it had on who I am and what I do. I was 15 when I moved here and a few weeks before the Huntridge roof collapsed, so almost immediately I learned that if I wanted bands I liked to play town I was gonna have to bring them there myself. If you can get 100 people out to a Desert show with nothing but a flyer – you can set up a killer show pretty much anywhere. So yeah – Vegas is important to me and I’m beyond stoked to start the tour there.”

Residuels’ latest release is a two song 7”, which is streaming above and available today via Born Losers Records. The 7” finds the band honing their brand of stripped-down rock with a 70s punk vibe, with a sound perfect for lovers of the Misfits and Residuels tour partners Buzzcocks.

Fans of Residuels in Vegas will get a chance to see the band live tomorrow, Saturday, May 14, at the Dive with locals Acid Sisters and a “mystery band.” Details for that show can be found on Facebook. For Pittney, the show is extra exciting as it’s the first time one of his non-Vegas bands has played this city, which has one thing in common with his current home of Philly.

“[Philly and Vegas are] two totally alternate universes in almost every way I can think of” says Pittney, laughing. “But they definitely have one awesome thing in common – it’s doesn’t matter what blog you’re getting hype on, what famous punk sings your praises or what you draw in LA: You gotta show up and prove yourself to get people’s attention and that’s what we plan on doing Saturday night.”
