SquidHat Records Announces Fourth Annual Showcase

Our friends at SquidHat Records have announced details on their fourth annual label showcase. Once again taking place at the Double Down Saloon, this year’s event will be held January 22-23, 2016.

It will feature current SquidHat Records artists including Franks and Deans, The Damnit Jims and The Negative Nancys as well as the fourth annual reunion of Attack Ships On Fire and more. You can see the lineup breakdown below.

So how did the 2016 lineup come to be and what’s in store for SquidHat next year? We went right to the source – SquidHat founder Allan Carter – for the details.

Allan Carter:

We are very excited about the SquidHat 4th Anniversary Weekend in 2016! Wow, 4 years. Some days it seems like 20 and some it seems like just yesterday. It’s been a fun ride, and one I hope will continue into my old age and beyond. We’ve worked with a lot of amazing people, made some lifelong friends, and put some great music into the world. At least I think so.

For 2016 we have a pretty full schedule of releases already on the books so we decided, rather than searching for our next band, we’d celebrate some new things, some classics and just have fun.

The line-up is eclectic to be sure. You may or may not know this but the onus to start the label came from me “retiring” from playing live music as a drummer. So I hung up the sticks to start SquidHat but, as it does, the urge to play live comes back now and again. So, once a year we “put the band back together” and open the Anniversary shows. This year, due to so many requests for it, we are bringing back Hit ME Baby on the Friday. 30 solid minutes of punk rock Britney Spears covers. Then Saturday we’ll do our “real” band Attack Ships On Fire.

The SquidHat line-up features The Negative Nancys and we’re releasing their debut in February. The Damnit Jims whose 7” we put out earlier this year and Franks & Deans whose debut we also released this year and who closed the 3rd Anniversary weekend and were simply amazing.

Rounding out the weekend are Dirk Vermin and his new band The Hostile Talent. Cool guys playing awesome punk covers. We also have Tartar Control (a band we just love to see live) and The legendary Mapes who should put a nice exclamation point on Friday night. Always a good time.

So what’s in store for 2016? Well, The Negative Nancys’ debut, The Prince comp for Record Store Day, The Quitters debut “No Big Deal” reissued for the first time on vinyl, a brand new Gashers album and lots, lots more!
