Zabi Naqshband talks Holding Onto Sound reunion, May 13 at The Bunkhouse Saloon (Macro Fi)

The creation of a “Macro Fi Reunion” Facebook event in early February lead to much speculation on who exactly would be among the reunited, spurred on by fond memories of the collective’s Bunkhouse showcases.

Well, today the cat is finally out of the bag and before you ask, no, this is most definitely not an April Fools prank. No really.

The lineup for the “Citylife Macro Fi Reunion” boasts Holding Onto Sound, The Skooners, One Pin Short and outsidelookingin, four staples of the older, divier Bunkhouse and those Macro Fi gigs.

So how did this show come together? “The idea was sparked by a Facebook post of an old Macro Fi show flier, I think” explains Zabi Naqshband, who played bass in HOTS until their abrupt breakup in 2013 (Naqshband is the current bassist/vocalist for Illicitor).

“Def [Professor Def aka John Kiehlbauch, Macro Fi] called me up one day and asked if I would be down to play a reunion show. I guess he and Bennett [Mains, former HOTS guitarist/vocalist] talked about it and got all stoked on the idea.”

“Bennett called me and we talked. It was good to hear from him. After our talk I gave Vanessa [Tidwell, drums] and Bob [Gates, guitar] the heads up, that they would be getting a similar phone call. They did, and also agreed to this one show.”

For Holding Onto Sound and its fans, this show should be particularly cathartic, as the band never had an official final show after nearly 10 years together.

“I’m being 100% honest here, I’m really happy to be playing this show. I was pretty devastated when we broke up. I felt we had enough to get us to the next level, but HOTS couldn’t do that without Bennett. He wrote all the songs with the exception of the ones I sang. It wouldn’t be right to call ourselves HOTS without him. So when he quit we had to end that chapter and put that book away.”

The Macro Fi Reunion show takes place May 13 and more information can be found via Facebook.
