Video: Trey the Ruler at The Aruba Hotel 1/14/12

Just before The Sheds took the stage at the Vegas stop of the Heart to Heart/The Sheds/Currents DisasTOUR, we were treated to a pleasant and thought-provoking surprise in the form of spoken-word poet Trey the Ruler.

Since the Vancouver, WA poet wasn’t on the flyer or any promos for the show, the crowd didn’t quite know what to expect when he took the stage. But as a hush spread over the audience, you could see that people weren’t just watching. They were really listening, and digesting what Trey had to say about motivation and your sense of self.

The subject matter of the poems that Trey performed was diverse, but the most powerful moments came from his latest record Dark Arts, which explores the concept of de-motivation as a result of ‘false prophets’ such as Harold Camping and others telling us the world is going to end at any moment.

You can download Dark Arts for free on the Trey the Ruler Bandcamp page. Check out Trey’s website or Facebook for the latest information on where he’s performing and what he’s up to.
