Images: Punk Rock BBQ feat. Happy Campers, Burning Agrestic, Unfair Fight & more June 15, 2013 at the Bunkhouse Saloon

It was recently announced that beloved downtown venue the Bunkhouse Saloon would soon be closing for renovations and a change in ownership. Although slated to reopen in September with live music still in the plans, it will remain to be seen if they’ll fit the punk rock niche they’ve filled so well. ...

On June 1st, I checked out the Vegas stop of the Summer Sickness tour with Authority Zero, Ballyhoo!, and Versus the World. I’d never been to Time Out Sports Bar before, and I was surprised to find a really cool space with a great sunken stage area. This evening was also being celebrated as a one year anniversary for the bar, and I’m hoping there will be a lot more shows there in the future. ...

Images: Fall Out Boy, New Politics June 15, 2013 at the House of Blues

Back in 2003, I caught Fall Out Boy opening for Less Than Jake at the House of Blues and they immediately won me over with their Lifetime-influenced pop punk, catchy hooks and dynamic stage presence. A lot has changed for the band over the past 10 years – they began to incorporate influences from outside the punk and hardcore spectrum, they saw a period of immense pop culture saturation (particularly for bassist and lyricist Pete Wentz) and they took an extended hiatus where the members all dabbled in solo and side projects – but I was excited to be there when they made a triumphant return to Vegas last week, after a 5 year absence. ...

Admittedly, I wasn’t sure what to expect from Finch’s What It Is To Burn 10-year anniversary show at the Hard Rock Live (the new name for the Hard Rock Café on the Strip’s third floor music venue). Finch broke through in a huge way with that album, coming at the peak of Drive-Thru Record's pop punk dominance. Finch didn’t fall into that pop punk genre, but they definitely road the Drive-Thru wave to success, touring with label-mates like New Found Glory. But unlike NFG, Finch's mainstream success was mostly limited to their debut album, and they retired from touring over 5 years ago. ...

Images: Punk Rock Bowing day three feat. FLAG, DRI & more May 27, 2013 at Fremont East

I’ll be completely honest: I didn’t even plan on attending any of the PRB shows this year. I thought the 2013 lineup paled in comparison to last year, and the fact that I had to work on Friday and Sunday further complicated matters. Sure, there were a few bands scattered throughout the weekend that interested me like 7 Seconds, Agnostic Front, Bad Religion, D.R.I., Flag, and Subhumans, but I hesitated to buy tickets. I can’t say I was all that bummed when I found out all of the shows had quickly sold out. ...

Images: Punk Rock Bowling day two feat. Bad Religion, Turbonegro & more May 26, 2013 at Fremont East

The second full day of Punk Rock Bowling was the one I was most looking forward to this year. Headliners Bad Religion are one of the bands that got me into punk, they’re coming off one of their best albums in a while with True North and it’s been about 7 years since I last saw them live. On top of that, I’m a huge Bouncing Souls fan (I do run a blog named after one of their songs) and I never tire of seeing Lagwagon. ...
