Bayside has played here about once a year since forming in the early 2000s. From their early shows at Family Music and Jillian’s to headlining the Warped Tour and most recently in opening slots for Alkaline Trio and Taking Back Sunday, the New York-based punk band is one of the few who never gave up playing in Vegas. And it’s paid off, with the latest show, March 19th’s date of “The Great American Cult Tour” at Hard Rock Live selling out by the time the foursome took the stage. Los Angeles’ DC Fallout recently came through Vegas for two nights to finish up their west coast tour, and I managed to catch their first night at The Artistic Armory, which doubled as the debut show for Vegas punk rock supergroup New Cold War. The Armory popped up fairly recently as a consistent all-ages venue, and it’s quickly becoming one of my favorite spots to see bands. Unfortunately, work kept me from half a show again, so I missed local openers Tonight We Fight, Characters and part of Apex Of Apathy. From what I was able to catch, Apex seemed like they had an insanely great time. You don't always see crowd participation during local sets but Apex had it. A line of eager faces took up the front row to dance along to what the band had to offer. A good friend to many, and to the band, Macario Gutierrez of Twin Cities came up to the microphone during their instrumental song and gave it a new life. It is definitely safe to say that the band got an energy going that lasted throughout the whole night ...
