In Honor of Blair Dewane, fellow musicians and friends have organized a 3 day celebration of life dubbed Blairfest. The 3 day celebration will take place on December 16th to the 18th, with the first two nights at the Plaza’s Sand Dollar. The festival will feature performances from Blair’s wide community of musicians like: Indigo Kidd, Same Sex Mary, Mercy Music, Dark Black, Hassan Hamilton and many more. Also performing will be Ian Dewane and former members of Rusty Maples and The Skooners performing renditions of Blair’s catalog of songs. The weekend will close with Blairaoke on Sunday the 18th at Starboard Tack. All events will be donation based, with funds collected going to cover operating costs and all additional funds donated to a charity in Blair’s honor. Apologies for the lateness of this review, but I’ve decided that moving forward I’m just going to become the procrastinated reviewer. This past couple of months there’s been some absolute bangers in Vegas like Frank Turner, Subhumans, New Found Glory, and Less Than Jake. While it’s great to see these legends, It’s important to remember that all of these bands were once nameless openers at small DIY gigs grinding their way across their respective country trying to rummage up a following. So even if it’s a bit late, I think it’s important that we try and highlight some of the talented acts that are putting in work today just to share their noise and message. I was surprised, to say the least. Rolling up Polaris to the newish all-ages venue ‘The Space,’ I expected a warehouse. What I was greeted by was a kind young man offering to valet my car so I wouldn’t have to walk so far, and a mf marquee letting me know I was at the right place. To ensure easy access to the few trunk beers I brought, I self-parked and passed several other tailgaters on my way in.   I messed up y’all, I missed the opening band; Napalm Star. I was told they did really well. A group of young guys playing 90s era shoegaze influenced indie rock with an endearing lead singer. Is that a good description? I don’t know.
