Nothington returned to Vegas last week, playing at the Bunkhouse Saloon with Semi Evolved Simians, Viva Valhalla, and The Seriouslys. This show had a lot stacked against it – A no-show band, vehicle difficulties almost causing Nothington to miss the gig, and a raucous bar fight that involved the sound guy, a one-armed woman and a knife.

But the show preserved in spite of all this, and Nothington actually extended their set due to the good atmosphere that finally enveloped the bar once they started to play. The band had the whole song singing along with tracks like “A Mistake” and “The Ocean” and teased their upcoming album with a new song that reminded me a lot of the style of pop punk Off With Their Heads has been playing.

Of course the always rousing “Where I Stand,” with it’s hints of Social Distortion influence, got the biggest reaction of the night, with the dozen or so people left by this point shouting the song’s “whoa-oh” hook right back at Jay Northington and company.
