Music: Listen to the Summer of Ska 2016 sampler, see the show June 18 at The Warehouse

Weather cracking triple digits? Must be summer. And in Vegas, summer means ska thanks to the third annual Summer of Ska event, a festival forged in part due to the DIY aesthetic that’s grown in Vegas over the years, as festival organizer Tommy Nicholson explains:

“The music scene in Las Vegas is growing. It’s a big ‘do it yourself’ movement, a community where no one in this town (that I know) is really waiting for someone to do anything for them… you know? Summer of Ska was formed with that in mind, to highlight some of the hardest working bands in town and all over the U.S. SOS was most importantly formed to have fun! With all the things to be serious about, it’s amazing to step out and dance with your friends. This year is the most diverse yet and people can expect a variety. Ska for everyone! This show is for the showgoer, the youth, and the amazing scene we have today!”

This year’s event takes place Saturday, June 18 at The Warehouse in Henderson and to get you sufficiently stoked, we’re bringing you a stream of the 2016 Summer of Ska sampler, featuring bands playing this year’s event.

Physical copies of the comp will be on hand for a $3 donation for the 5 touring bands. Tickets for the event run $8 or $5 is you get there before 7 p.m., and for further “get there early” encouragement, the first 10 people in line for this year’s event will get a free SOS shirt.
