Sounds Like: Melodic punk rock with spells of heavy, angst-ridden jams

Score: 9/10

For reasons I can’t see, Heart to Heart still seems to be flying under everyone’s radar. But with their debut full-length delivering on all the promises of their excellent Deathproof EP, I’m hoping they’ll become a household name soon enough.

It doesn’t take long while listening to this record to get a feel for what Heart to Heart is truly great at. Honest as hell lyrics, melodic aggressiveness and infectious hooks. Opener “In Case You Haven’t Noticed” shows off the band’s lyrical depth and the in-your-face “Life Preserver” sounds like it will be a crowd favorite very soon.

“The Turn” could be one of my favorite songs of 2012. It’s rare to see bands successfully match intensity with such a smooth hook and the genuine, raw feel of the song makes me eager to hear it live. The instantly catchy “Stuck” is another highlight, carried by an unforgiving tempo and a super cool vocal guest spot by Tony Geravesh of Stickup Kid. There’s a great vocal range on this record, with guttural yells coming across just as organically as faint whispers. The bittersweet, acoustic “GV” ends the record on a powerful note, showing the band’s somber side.

This full-length is pretty fantastic, and shows a lot of range. If you don’t already have a copy, hit iTunes or pick it up from the Anchor Eighty Four Records webstore now.
