Stripped Down Session: John Nolan (Taking Back Sunday/Straylight Run)

John Nolan is one of my favorite songwriters, and though I’ve enjoyed his return to Taking Back Sunday, I’ve greatly missed hearing him on lead vocals.

I won’t have to miss those vocals much longer though because, even though Straylight Run is now in the past, Nolan is prepping a new solo album!

I was able to meet up with Nolan before TBS’ show at the House of Blues and with the help of Joel Kirschenbaum (Alaska) and Zachary Wichers, we were able to record two songs from Nolan’s upcoming solo album – “Street Robbery Blues” and “American Nightclub 1999.”

If you like what you hear, you can help make the new album a reality! Nolan is in the midst of a PledgeMusic campaign (with a portion of the proceeds raised going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital) and you can get more details for that here.

Both of these songs are great. Although I am partial to the TBS style of music, I am actually really digging both of these, especially “Street Robbery Blues”. I’ve played it on repeat for almost the past hour. I also liked Adam’s “Because It Works” acoustic song. Maybe I’m just a sucker for these guys and an acoustic guitar, I dunno!

This is a great live recording and it will hold me over, but I can’t wait for the iTunes version.
